Following customer feedback, the software giant announced that it will discontinue Shockwave for Windows on April 9, 2019. The company had already phased out the Director authoring tool and Mac player in 2017, but this latest move marks the end for good. of the web plugin for most. The only ones who will receive support beyond April 9 will be enterprise customers, whose contracts expire in 2022.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>HTML5 &amp; WebGL<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Adobe&#039;s decision comes as no surprise as the Internet has moved on. As the company stated, &quot;Shockwave usage has &#039;declined&#039; as technologies like HTML5 and WebGL have taken over.&quot; It&#039;s clear that developers who still dynamically support their web applications would prefer to move to newer, truly universal builds and versions.&quot;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>What will be affected?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The lack of Shockwave might not be dramatically noticeable on most websites, but it could cause problems. Many older games and multimedia frameworks were developed around Shockwave, which allowed exciting web applications to appear at a time when HTML was very mediocre and powerful, consumer-friendly smartphones were mere dreams.
