Adobe Reflection Removal Tool
Adobe today announced the release of the Reflection Removal Tool, a new artificial intelligence (AI)-powered tool capable of eliminating annoying reflections from photos taken through windows. The tool is now available as a preview through Adobe Camera Raw, and will soon be available in Lightroom.
New tool for clearer photos
The best way to avoid reflections is to shoot without windows in the frame. However, Adobe's Reflection Removal Tool offers a second chance, allowing you to fix these problems so that the beautiful view you captured from inside a plane or room is truly usable.
The tool works by analyzing the photo and distinguishing between the two different image layers created by reflection. Often, these layers are differentiated by content, color temperature (indoor scenes are usually warmer than outdoor scenes), and their sharpness.
How to Test the Reflection Removal Tool
The tool is currently only compatible with RAW files, with future support for JPEG and HEIC. To use it:
1. Open the Camera Raw tool.
2. Go to the Technology Previews section in the Preferences Panel and enable the New AI Settings and Features Panel.
3. Restart Adobe Photoshop or Adobe Bridge.
After importing a RAW file, you'll find the Reflections option in the Distraction Removal section of the Remove Panel. After a few seconds, a version of the image without reflections will appear, accompanied by a slider that lets you adjust the effect.
