New Firefly Tools
Adobe introduced new Generative AI tools for video, such as the ability to generate video clips from still images through the Firefly model. This feature allows users to create videos with text descriptions and adjust the result using camera controls that simulate shooting angles, movement and distance. Also, the image-to-video tool enables the creation of clips based on specific images, useful for B-roll production or filling gaps in the production schedule.
Adobe promises that its Firefly tools are "commercially safe" as they have been trained on open source content, reducing fears of copyright infringement. The quality of the video produced appears comparable to that of OpenAI's Sora model, with the maximum length of video clips being 5 seconds, according to Adobe's VP of Generative AI, Alexandru Costin.
Premiere Pro: Generative Extend
In addition, Adobe introduced the “Generative Extend” tool for Premiere Pro, which can extend the duration of existing video, similar to the “Generative Expand” tool in Photoshop for expanding image backgrounds.
These features will initially be available in beta this year, with full integration into Creative Cloud and other Adobe applications expected soon.
